Case 2: Cleft Nose Revision
Cleft Lip Rhinoplasty This 18 year old woman had a cleft lip repair as a baby. She now is ready for college and wants her nose to look better. Her cleft lip scar does not bother her. Before her cleft lip rhinoplasty, her nose was deviated to the right, with the right nostril elevated and the left one sagging downward. Her tip was wide and she had a prominent hump. Her left cartilage sidewall was collapsed. Her tip was long and droopy. After cleft lip rhinoplasty her nose is straighter and prettier. Dr. Minas Constantinides Manhattan plastic surgery was not able to fully improve the nostril asymmetry, but her tip is no longer droopy and her profile is straight. Spreader grafts were used to support the collapsed left sidewall. In cleft lip patients the premaxilla, or the bone of the upper lip area that the nose sits on, is deficient. This gives the face a flatter look. Even though nothing was done to this bone, the whole face looks less flat after the cleft lip rhinoplasty once the tip was strengthened and projected. Most importantly, the eyes are brighter and more focal on her face. What she loves is the way her smile looks now after facial plastic surgery.
